Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: Elevation values over water can be difficult to autmatically process from LIDAR, often leaving unusual looking features over these areas when displayed. One technique for providing a cleaner look is to mask the water with a polygon feature, flattening the values to a single height. This dataset is focused on polygon water features considered to be linked to or near the same elevation as the main body of Long Island Sound. The outline for the polygon is from the NOAA CUSP shoreline data, edited for closure then converted to polygon format. This feature provides a clean shoreline closely representing the high water mark at the time the LIDAR data was collected in Connecticut. The boundary selected for closing the polygon was at the mouth of the Hudson river near Governors Island in New York and a closure line from the tip of Monauk Point NY at the lighthouse to just East of the Weekapaug Breachway in Rhode Island. Merged polys to increase draw speed.
