This mosaic contains selected scanned historic aerial photographs for the shoreline of Connecticut. The scans were created by the CT State library and downloaded through the University of Connecticut Library MAGIC server. Prior to rectifying the images were cropped to minimize distortion from upland topography and the lack of tie features in the open water. Statewide 2012 ortho imagery was used as the base for matching the image coordinates. Because of the focus on coastal features only tie points at or near sea level were selected for rectiying the images (off shore rocks, prominent coastal landmarks, and other fixed features found in both the 2012 and rectified photographs). The georeferencing tools used are from ArcGIS 10., 2, and 3 depending on the version availalble at the time. The Projective transformation was used to minimize warping in the images yet still account for tilt of the aircraft. These are not true ortho photographs, no elevation values were taken into account and displacement in upland features were not aligned.

Mosaic dataset of rectified scanned aerial photographs from the historic archives.
